Shared Cycling Fun

Mobility for everyone

Enabling people with limited mobility to experience the joy and wonder of cycling. That's what Shared Cycling Fun is all about.

Cycling for people with limited mobility

Cycling is awesome. It allows us to visit the places we've loved our entire life, or to explore places we've never been. It enables us to connect with nature, family and friends, to charge our mental batteries, or to completely relax along the way. In short, cycling guarantees fun excursions, great stories and wonderful memories...

But what if you cannot, or can no longer, cycle independently because of age, health or a disability? Then Shared Cycling Fun comes to the rescue!

Shared Cycling Fun enables people with limited mobility to experience the joy and wonder of cycling. With the help of shared bicycles, volunteers take these people out for a ride. Loneliness makes way for a spontaneous laugh, a cosy chat and a pleasant journey. Wonderful, that feeling of wind through your hair!

From rickshaws to wheelchair bikes

Shared Cycling Fun employs different types of bicycles for people who are less mobile: from rickshaws to wheelchair bicycles, platform bicycles and duo bicycles. Each shared bicycle has a pilot who steers and pedals, and a passenger who rides along. Together, they turn every bike ride into an unforgettable experience.

How it all began...

Cycling Without Age took off in Copenhagen in 2012. It was an idea of Ole Kassow, who wanted his disabled father and brother to experience the pleasure of cycling. His successful concept quickly spread abroad. In Belgium, the concept is known as Shared Cycling Fun, with several local initiatives, often managed by residential care centers, welfare organisations and seniors' associations.

I want to start a shared cycling initiative

As a volunteer

Of course, most of the time, less mobile people cannot pedal themselves. That is why we work with shared bicycles. These are bicycles for two people, with a pilot who pedals and a passenger who does not. Do you want to cycle around as a pilot? Then register as a volunteer in an initiative in your area.
