How do you organise your own bike pool?
What could be nicer than walking or cycling to school together? Why not start a bike pool or a walking pool together with other parents? It's fun and easy. We put you on your way with practical tips and good examples.
What is bike-pooling or foot-pooling?
Children love to walk and cycle. And it only gets more fun if they can also pick up friends along the way to go to school together. Pooling is cycling or walking to school or hobbies with a small, clearly identifiable group of children, accompanied by one or more adults. In other words, they are a healthier, safer and more environmentally friendly idea than taking the car.

I notice that more and more children, even apart from the bike pool, are coming to school by bike. Apparently, our garland of bike-pooling children has won over other parents. They now see that cycling or walking are not that dangerous or cumbersome at all.

Only advantages for poolers
Many children often live near their school. So cycling and walking is a logical choice. And this has only advantages for poolers:
- Children gain experience in traffic and train their cycling skills, making them more independent and agile.
- In a group, everyone is more visible. Motorists also tend to behave more courteously towards poolers.
- Fewer cars also means less chaos at the school gate.
- Cyclists are often faster because they can take shortcuts.
- Stepping and pedalling is healthy and it costs nothing.
- Poolers have more social contact and arrive at class fresher.
