Apply for grants for a safer school environment

Safe to school
Tips & tricks

The Flemish Government provides subsidies for small infrastructure measures in school environments and along school routes. Read here how to apply for them. These are projects that, following the STOP principle, eliminate dangerous points for cyclists and pedestrians.

How to apply for grants?

To encourage active travel to and from school, the school environment and the routes leading to it must also be safe and of good quality. The Flemish Government has therefore developed a subsidy scheme for smaller infrastructure works that make the school environment safer.
To submit a dossier for subsidies from the Mobility and Public Works Department (MOW), your municipality can call on Mobiel 21's expertise. We help you with the analysis of the local traffic situation, the development of concrete measures and the practical assistance in submitting the subsidy file. This way, you increase your chances of getting subsidies and save yourself the hassle that often comes with such an application.

Grant application

The subsidies are aimed at quickly implementable measures such as traffic signalisation and small infrastructure modifications. As a municipality, you can submit one grant application per calendar year for up to 10 school environments.

Eligible costs

  • traffic signalisation
  • smaller infrastructural measures that increase road safety
  • Material and placement costs
