Good cycle stands: a must at stations and stops
To give combi mobility the wind at its back, decent bicycle parking facilities are a must. Cyclists want to be able to leave their bikes with peace of mind to continue their journeys by train, tram or bus. Together with The New Drive, we made a study on safe and quality bicycle parking at mobility hubs.
A shared vision for all parties
Until now, responsibility for bicycle parking at major hubs has been in the hands of transport operators and road authorities. This study lays the foundation for a single shared bicycle parking vision. And at the same time takes into account the different perspectives of the parties involved in parking policy around mobility hubs:
- local authorities from the needs of their residents and opportunities on their territory
- the carriers (NMBS and De Lijn) from the point of view of their transport network and their customers
- road managers from the perspective of optimising the existing infrastructure
A shared level of ambition
The study provides practical tools to:
- develop, together with all stakeholders, a network map and management plan for bicycle parking facilities at mobility hubs
- map the whole process from design to the opening of a new parking facility
This will also provide answers to practical questions regarding, for example, the level of service and control and maintenance, quality of infrastructure and accessibility, theft and vandalism prevention, orphan bike policy, communication, etc.
