This is how Flanders thinks about sustainable mobility
How do people in Flanders view sustainable mobility? How do they envision the future of mobility in their cities and towns? Our 2024 survey of 2,000 Flemish people shows clear support for a wide range of sustainable mobility policies.
What we go for
Mobility for everyone
Everyone has the right to move freely and participate in society. We support people facing transport disadvantages by identifying vulnerable groups, and seek to integrate equity into sustainable mobility.
Car-free living
Streets should prioritise people over cars. Through creative campaigns, temporary interventions and experiments, we show how cities and towns can reclaim space for walking, cycling and community life.
Safe to school
Children deserve a safe journey to school. We work with schools, parents, local authorities and pupils to create safer routes, reduce traffic pressure and promote active travel in the school environment. Autonomous mobility should be the norm. Everywhere!
Smart cities and towns
We put citizens at the heart of mobility planning, giving them tools and platforms to share their insights and shape solutions. From data collection to cocreation labs, we make sure local knowledge and lived experiences inform better policies.

Cycling school XS: Fight against mobility poverty starts with children
More and more children cannot cycle (properly). Fietsschool XS' low-threshold cycling lessons help to overcome this cycling deficit. With success. Because after four lessons, 75% of the participants achieve the expected cycling proficiency. Cycling school XS is thus a crucial step in the fight against mobility poverty.
